Why you don't need an app to sign a PDF on iPhone
Most guides tell you to download Adobe Acrobat, DocuSign, or some other app. But modern mobile browsers are powerful enough to handle PDF signing entirely on-device — no installation, no account, and no files sent to a server.
Signvert runs entirely in Safari or Chrome on your iPhone. Your PDF is loaded into the browser's memory, you draw or place your signature, and the signed PDF is saved directly to your device.
Step-by-step: sign a PDF on iPhone
- Open Safari or Chrome on your iPhone and go to signvert.com.
- Tap "Choose file" and select your PDF from Files, iCloud Drive, or your photo library.
- Draw your signature with your finger on the signature pad. You can also type your name or upload a saved signature image.
- Tap "Add to document" and drag the signature to the correct position. Pinch to resize.
- Tap "Download signed PDF". The file saves to your Downloads folder or Files app.
Tips for a clean signature on a small screen
- Rotate your phone to landscape mode before drawing — you get more horizontal space.
- Use a stylus or Apple Pencil if you have one for a more natural signature.
- If your signature looks shaky, tap "Clear" and try again. Take your time — the pad doesn't time out.
- Save your signature image after the first signing so you can upload it next time instead of redrawing.
Is a signature made on iPhone legally valid?
For most everyday documents — tenancy agreements, consent forms, HR documents, school forms — a drawn signature image is accepted. The UK's Electronic Communications Act 2000 and the EU's eIDAS regulation both recognise electronic signatures for most commercial and personal transactions.
For formal legal instruments (wills, property transfers, court documents), check with the receiving party or a solicitor about their specific requirements. These often require a witnessed wet signature.
What if my PDF won't open?
If the PDF is password-protected, you'll need to remove the password first. If the file is very large (over 50 MB), try compressing it first using our File Resize & Compress tool.
